A Nigerian online hotel booking site, Jovago.com, in line with its mission to help develop ICT in the country’s tourism industry, has unveiled a consumer-focused business model that facilitates personalised services for guests to book hotel rooms based on their own criteria.
The move is in the context of the technological developments and ICT which have changed businesses all over the world, and with the development in information technology comes an increasing shift in global business operations. The ICT driven society has also generated a paradigm shift altering industry structures and presenting a wide range of opportunities.
With the shift in business operations to predominantly online, comes the change in consumers’ daily activities, especially but not limited to consumer shopping habits, travelling inclusive. The internet has drastically changed the way consumers plan their travel and spend their holidays. This in turn has affected how tourism providers shape, promote and sell their products and services.
According to the Managing Director of Jovago.com, Marek Zmyslowski, “development in ICT has brought the marketplace to homes and offices. The average Nigerian spends about four to five hours on the computer daily seeking one piece of information or the other. It’s only logical to meet with your target where you can find them- online, and make their stay on your website as customer-focused and hassle-free as possible.”
ICT has revolutionised communications as it has enabled hospitality providers to demonstrate their offerings globally using multimedia interfaces. In this regard, Nigeria has come of age, taking into consideration the increasing internet penetration rate in the country and it is only expected for travellers to benefit from this revolution.
