Northern Territory’s premier tourism awardsIt’s time to shine the spotlight on the great work of Northern Territory tourism operators with nominations now open for the Territory’s premier tourism awards, the Brolgas.

“The 29th Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Awards recognise and reward excellence in the NT tourism industry,” Northern Territory Chief Minister Adam Giles said.

“The Brolgas encourage tourism business and operators to lift the bar and continue to deliver world-class attractions, facilities and experiences in the Territory.”

The Brolgas are open to tourism operators, accommodation providers, festivals and events and industry suppliers.

There are 26 business categories this year, including a new category – Self Contained Accommodation, which has been introduced as a result of the increasing number of apartment style accommodation nationally.

One of last year’s winners, Venture North Australia, who specialise in taking guests ‘off-the-beaten-track’ in style, also went on to win a silver medal for Heritage & Cultural Tourism at the Australian Tourism Awards in April.

“I would highly recommend any NT business owner to enter the awards. Even if you don’t win the major award, the process makes you take a good look at the inner workings of your business and you’ll end up a stronger company at the end of the day,” Venture North’s Managing Director Hugh Gange said.

The Brolgas are part of the Government’s plan to drive the development of North Australia and build a $2.2 billion visitor economy by 2020.

The Territory Government has increased Tourism NT’s overall budget for 2015-16 to $50.4 million to help market the Northern Territory and its attractions.

Each Business Category winner at the Brolgas will win a marketing package valued at $10,000 with Tourism NT.

“The marketing package you receive as a winner was extremely valuable and helped us launch our new fishing brand – Coburg Fishing Safaris,” Mr Gange said.

Entry to the Brolgas is free and Tourism NT also offers a free assistance program to help entrants with their submissions that includes mentoring and a “mock Judge” process.

Winners will be presented with their awards at the Brolgas gala event to be held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Saturday 21 November.
