Drought threat could cause serious setback to the tourism industry of North Carolina which alone generated $20 billion last year. Extreme weather would threaten that revenue. The state has already been given a B+ by the America’s Preparedness Report Card as the state is under serious climate threat.
The state is a bit slow when it comes to preparedness and that is the reason most critiques are urging the state authorities to move in the right direction at the right time. Coastal flooding is another area where the state lags behind. About 120,000 people live in risk areas. This number is expected to grow by 30 per cent by 2050 also heat wave days will quadruple by 2050.
The state is confronted by water shortage periodically. There is not enough supply to meet the demands. Climate change could make things get worst.
