North Korea’s State Department has issued a severe warning to Americans planning to travel to North Korea and said that tourists to this strict country might prop up its dangerous nuclear program. Korea directs its revenue from a variety of sources for its nuclear weapons program and it places it above everything else, many times at the expense of its own people.
The State Department also cautioned that travelers to the Kim Jong Un-ruled country stand “serious risk of arrest and long-term detention” for actions that would not be considered crimes in the U.S. In the last 10 years, at least 14 US nationals have been detained in North Korea and even being a member of a group or using a tour guide hasn’t helped much from getting arrested or detained.
North Korea’s nuclear programs have received severe international criticism and raised alarm throughout the world. In an exclusive interview with NBC News in October, a top North Korean official said that his country would carry out nuclear tests and even plan a defensive strike on the US if the situation arises.
