North West Trout Fishery Opening To All Anglers

tourism tasmania logoOne of Tasmania’s renowned recreational trout fisheries will open to all enthusiasts in a move that will boost participation and visitation in the state’s North West.
Over the past 40 years Talbots Lagoon at Guilford has earned a reputation as a quality wild trout fishery, but up until now access has been limited.
In a major boost for the region, new owners Forico Pty Ltd have struck an agreement with the Inland Fisheries Service to open the lagoon to the angling community.
Together, Forico and IFS have completed major upgrades to improve the lagoon’s facilities for recreational fishers. The upgrades will help to manage public access and assist visitors, including parking areas, signage, maps, track clearing and track construction.
This is a great addition to Tasmania’s world class trout fishery. Every year around 28,000 licensed anglers cast a line in our waterways, including 6,000 from interstate and overseas.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is a big supporter of Tasmania’s trout fishery. We have returned permanent Inland Fisheries Officers to the North West and at Liawenee, and we are developing southern fishing opportunities by enhancing Lake Dulverton, expanding the Derwent Anglers Access program and investigating feasibility of a lake fishery in the Huon/Geeveston area.
Access to Talbots Lagoon is a great privilege for anglers, and I urge all to adhere to the access guidelines and angling regulations to ensure goodwill is maintained.
