The minister of interim tourism, Daniel Nepomuceno, attended the 287th meeting of the Board of Directors of the Manaus Free Zone Superintendence (CAS / Suframa), in Amazonas on Thursday (July 25).

The meeting was also attended by the President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro; the ministers of Economy, Institutional Security and Mines and Energy, Paulo Guedes, General Augusto Heleno and Bento Albuquerque; Suframa Superintendent Alfredo Menezes; as well as governors of northern states, mayors, businessmen and leaders.

It was the first time in the last 10 years that a President of the Republic has participated in a deliberative Council meeting. The Ministry of Tourism occupies one of the seats of CAS, which, by law, is chaired by the minister of Economy, Paulo Guedes.

During the meeting, Council representatives highlighted the fundamental role of tourism in the process of strengthening the region.

Interim Tourism Minister Daniel Nepomuceno said that Northern Brazil has a strong representation and vocation for ecotourism and gastronomy, as well as contributing decisively to the development of the country, through the generation of jobs and income from local tourism activity. .

In addition, the Amazon is the state of the region that received the most foreign tourists in 2018.

“The North has destinations that offer lush nature, adventure in the middle of the Amazon jungle, culture and gastronomy in a singularity that needs to win the world. It’s time to convert our tourism potential into business, jobs and income,” he added.

In the first hearing held this year, the agenda was focused on important issues for economic growth and the appreciation of the region, highlighting the vote on 88 industrial and service projects that foresee investments of US $ 630 million and the generation of about 3,500 direct jobs in the industrial center of Manaus in the coming years.
In his speech, President of the Republic, Jair Bolsonaro, stressed that “the region has always attracted the world’s attention for its natural beauty and potential.” The president announced works that have been awaited by local people for years, highlighting the renovation and construction of BR 319 that will connect the North with the rest of the country.
“We are working to serve everyone, no matter the region. We want to integrate the North with progress,” said Bolsonaro.
Data from the Ministry of Tourism indicate that more than 36,000 international tourists arrived in Brazil through the Amazon in 2018. The number grew 7.2% compared to 2017.
The state also has 30 municipalities and seven tourist regions covered by the Map of Brazilian Tourism. In addition, around 1200 Amazonian tourism service providers are already in the Cadastur (National Register of Tourism Service Providers) of the Ministry of Tourism.
