Northern Territory GovernmentNew and exciting tourism and recreation experiences could be offered at the Territory Wildlife Park with the Northern Territory Government calling for expressions of interest from investors to help revitalise the iconic attraction.

Chief Minister Adam Giles said the Northern Territory Government was committed to increasing visitation to the Territory’s parks and reserves through sustainable development and increased commercial partnerships.

“The Territory Wildlife Park is a beautiful nature-based recreation and education facility where visitors can explore and learn about the animals, plants and habitats of the Top End of Northern Australia, and we want the park to continue to thrive into the future,” he said.

“The Government is keen to hear proposals to develop privately owned tourism assets or infrastructure, to reinvigorate existing visitor experiences, or for privately run activities or events to be held in the park.

“To be considered, proposals are required to protect and enhance the natural, cultural and recreational values of the park and all developments will be required to comply with relevant laws and regulations before being progressed.

“The Country Liberals Government is committed to developing a vibrant tourism industry through expanding and diversifying the visitor experiences available at Territory Wildlife Park and we want industry and stakeholders to put forward proposals which unlock the potential for this park.

“This is a unique opportunity to bring commercial tourism-based projects to fruition with the full support of government.”

Member for Daly Gary Higgins said he was looking forward to hearing about innovative approaches from private enterprise.

“This is a great opportunity for local business to be part of the Park and support this iconic destination,” Mr Higgins said.

The call for Expressions of Interest is the first step in considering the suitability of concepts for the Territory Wildlife Park with EOI submissions to be lodged by 4 March 2016.

Mr Giles said the Country Liberals Government was working hard to create opportunities to deliver more jobs, better services and improve our unique way of life in the Territory.

“The Territory Government is determined to encourage economic development and opening up parks and reserves for private sector investment will offer business and employment opportunities for local communities and traditional custodians,” he said.
