Norwegian, the World’s Best Low-Cost Long-Haul Airline and Europe’s Best Low-Cost Airline, will significantly increase flights from the United States to one of its biggest European hubs: London Gatwick.
The airline announced today that it will connect San Francisco Bay Area and London with thrice-weekly service commencing on May 12, 2016. The flights will operate from Oakland International Airport, which is the San Francisco Bay Area airport closest to most of the local population, tourism and business venues. Norwegian currently flies from Oakland to both Oslo, Norway, and Stockholm, Sweden.
In May 2016, Norwegian will also increase flights from Los Angeles International Airport to London Gatwick by adding a fourth weekly flight on May 10. The carrier now offers more European nonstop routes from California than any other airline, with seven routes from its two Californian gateways, and with connections to all of Europe via Copenhagen, London, Oslo and Stockholm.
Due to high demand, the airline has moved forward two of its launch dates out of Boston Logan International Airport: London Gatwick will launch on March 27, 2016, two months earlier than planned; and Oslo will launch on April 2, 2016. To meet the high demand, Norwegian has added one weekly frequency to London, bringing it to five weekly flights, until May 11. Flights to Copenhagen will launch on May 17, as originally scheduled.
“The U.S. is one of our key markets and we see great demand from American customers for more affordable fares to Europe, especially in California. Boston is another destination that is doing really well for us, which is why we have moved forward those launch dates, and we can’t wait for our Dreamliner to arrive at Logan International,” said Bjørn Kjos, Norwegian’s CEO.
“London is the largest European air service market from the San Francisco Bay Area,” said Kristi McKenney, Port of Oakland Acting Director of Aviation, “At last, San Francisco Bay Area residents and visitors alike will be able to fly nonstop to this top European capitol using close-in and convenient Oakland International while paying low fares and experiencing award-winning service aboard Norwegian’s Dreamliners. We’re pleased that London Gatwick will be our 50th nonstop destination, a record high in our history.”
