The kingdom witnessed a total of 31.85 million arrivals of foreign tourists from January till November. This was an increase of 8.1 percent from the previous year, Pongpanu Svetarundra, permanent-secretary of the tourism and sports ministry, mentioned in a statement.
Pongpanu explained that Thailand hopes a record of total 35.4 million visitors this year, up 9 percent from 2016.
He said that approximately 10 million of those visitors are hoped to be Chinese.
The tourism industry of Thailand is an important employer as it accounts over 12 percent of Southeast Asia’s second-biggest economy.
Last year, there were a record 32.6 million visitors.
The tourism sector went through political ups and downs for decade in Thailand like several rounds of anti and pro-government street demonstrations along with two military coups. The arrival of tourists is driven by visitors from China.
