“I am pleased to announce the NSW Government will be supporting the Albury Gold Cup Carnival from 2016 – 2018, with the event expected to deliver an overnight visitor impact of nearly $8 million over the three years from visitors outside the region,” Mr Ayres said.
“NSW is home to some of the greatest horse racing carnivals in the world and supporting events in Regional NSW is a key strategy to helping grow regional tourism and keeping the State’s economy strong.”
The Albury Gold Cup Carnival features 15 individual races over two days including the feature race, the Listed Commercial Club Albury Gold Cup.
The 2016 Carnival will include traditional racing day elements such as corporate marquees, including the popular Birdcage marquee, live entertainment and Fashions on the Field with celebrity ambassadors.
Member for Albury Greg Aplin said the Carnival is recognised as the most significant tourism event for the city of Albury.
“The city’s vibrant atmosphere during the Albury Gold Cup Carnival is one not to miss, and this exciting sporting event makes an important contribution to the local visitor economy, attracting visitors from around the region and further afield,” Mr Aplin said.
The Albury Gold Cup Carnival is managed and facilitated through Albury City Council and Albury Racing Club and will be held from 17 – 18 March 2016.
