Mr. Shields’ resignation came at a time when tourist attraction operators are reporting a collapse in tourist numbers of up to 35 per cent.
However, although Mr. Shields intimated the staff about his decision, the Northern Territory Government has made no formal announcement of the decision.
There has been no formal announcement from the Tourism Minister Lauren Moss informing the tourism industry about Mr. Shield’s decision. There is also no acknowledgment of his contribution as the Government’s head of the industry.
Business super department head Michael Tennant is speculated to be the next candidate to take over as the interim head of Tourism.
