It is based a bit far from Bali and hopes to lure in as much as 3.5 million foreign tourists by 2017 and four million within 2018.
But then, the province feels that its natural sceneries are not the only unique specialty of this part of the world. It is quite keen to diversify its manifold tourist attractions including a vast array of sports tourism events, according to M. Zainul Majdi, the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara.
For this purpose, the administration of NTB has planned many sports-based tourism events like Rinjani Ultra Run, Sumbawa Ultra Run and Lombok Marathon.
Mandalika is one of the 10 priority destinations of Indonesia. This includes Wakatobi National Marine Park in Southwest Sulawesi, Morotai Island in North Maluku, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Mount Bromo in East Java, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Tanjung Lesung in Banten and Lake Toba in North Sumatra.
Zainul Majdi, the Governor had inaugurated the Tour de Lombok Mandalika on 13th April, 2017 and it was conducted till 16th April.
As many as 15 international teams and four domestic teams had participated in the event.
The foreign teams had arrived from 22 nations like South Korea, Spain, Japan, France, Australia, Switzerland, Thailand, Laos, Germany, Netherlands, China, Mongolia, Singapore, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Spain, Italy and so on. M. Benny Subagia said that he is hopeful that Tour de Lombok Mandalika is likely to grow into a larger international event in the next few years and would be inviting more local riders.
The government of Indonesia has been motivating the regional administrations to organize international cycling events including local and national events, where domestic and foreign participants might enjoy a close encounter with the beautiful natural resources of the country.
