TamboraBudi Kurniawan who is the head of Tambora National Park has forecast that the number of tourists climbing Mount Tambora in 2017 is going to reach 2,000 people.

The figure has risen to a great extent as compared to that last year, and during that point of time just 1,333 people were reported to have climbed this mountain.

He said that the number of tourists who had climbed Mount Tambora in the last two years continues to increase with the passage of time. The number of climbers during January-July 2017 had reached 800 people, representing both domestic and foreign climbers.

However, if the figure is added to the number of mountain climbers who had commemorated the 72nd anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia on 17th August, 2017, about 1,000 people had ascended the mountain. And, therefore, the total number of climbers of Mount Tambora has touched 1,800 in the period of January-August.

He mentioned that in the new holiday season, the interest of the mountain climbers is really high and they are hopeful that the number of climbers of Mount Tambora in 2017 would be more than 2,000 people.

He also added that the rising number of climbers is owing to the fact that the natural tourist areas have been heavily impacted by the central and local governments.

In addition, the local government also has a routine agenda.

Every year, the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial Government along with Bima and Dompu Regencies host a Tambora Festival regularly with an aim to raise the number of tourist arrivals to Sumbawa Island and Tambora National Park.

Budi feels that the tourist interests of climbing Mount Tambora keeps on increasing and this would in turn improve the supporting facilities.

This location needs to be enriched with washing, bathing and toilet facilities and also landfills.
