Visit Oakland, the official destination marketing organization of Oakland declared that in 2015 Oakland greeted almost 3.6 million tourists. Visitors in Oakland have increased their spending by 23% from 2012 till 2015.
This generated over $795 million economic impact alongside creating additional 7000 job opportunities in Oakland. The president and CEO of Visit Oakland Mark Everton and Aran Ryan made this announcement at the Oakland Chamber of Commerce.
To quote the mayor Libby Schaaf, “Through the hard work of Visit Oakland and their success promoting our great city as a premiere tourism destination, we welcomed more visitors to Oakland than ever before. Tourism is a proven economic driver, supporting our local businesses and creating jobs for Oaklanders, and therefore, it is important that we continue to meet the growing demand of travelers interested in exploring Oakland.”
To quote Visit Oakland President and CEO, Mark Everton, “Oakland has so many rich offerings and we are proud to report that the city welcomed an unprecedented number of visitors in 2015. We look forward to encouraging even more people to experience Oakland’s diverse neighborhoods, unique cultural attractions, delicious restaurants and one-of-a-kind shopping boutiques.” Since 2012, tourism employment growth has outpaced overall employment and hospitality jobs by 12% in Oakland.
