In this event, over 1,000 athletes from 45 different countries will participate in 42 disciplines in the championships at the Kalinga Stadium. In addition, more than 3,000 visitors are expected to arrive here to support their respective teams/athletes.
To quote Ashok Chandra Panda, Tourism Minister, ‘we will promote various tourism spots in Odisha, including eco-tourism, during the championships. The Tourism Department has made an allocation of Rs 4 crore for this endeavour.’
The event will highlight the art, culture, sports, and tourism potential of Odisha. The mascot of the event is ‘Olly’ — the famous Olive Ridley turtle.
Every year, the sea turtles migrate to coastal Odisha for mass nesting. Numerous beaches located in Odisha are major nesting sites for these rare turtles.
