Ohio Star Ball Ballroom Dancing Competition Returns November 19-24

columbus convention center logoMore than 2,200 ballroom dancers of all ages will glide across the floor during the Ohio Star Ball – A Festival of DanceSport from November 19-24 at the SMG-managed Greater Columbus Convention Center and adjoining Hyatt Regency Columbus.

 

“We have almost 14,000 entries and will begin dancing at 7 a.m. four out of the six days in order to get everything in,” said Brenda Burger of Ohio Star Ball. “We have over 2,200 competitors.”

 

Dancers will compete in the Greater Columbus Convention Center’s Battelle Grand on Friday, November 22 and Saturday, November 23.

 

The event has grown in 36 years to become a six-day event with 70 judges and scholarship divisions that are the best-attended in the nation.

 
Among other events, the Ohio Star Ball is hosting the 2013 World Pro/Am DanceSport Series Title for ballroom, Latin, rhythm and smooth and the grand finale of the Best of the Best Challenge. There will also be more than 40 vendors and collegiate contestants from about 47 schools.

 

“The Ohio Star Ball is a member of the Dancers Cup Tour and is the world’s largest professional/amateur ballroom dancing championship,” said SMG General Manager John Page.

 

The Greater Columbus Convention Center, located in downtown Columbus, hosted an estimated 2.5 million visitors in 2012. The facility is owned by the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority and is managed by SMG.
