AEG Ogden and Oman Tourism Development Corporation (Omran) announced a partnership with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) aimed at establishing the convention and business events industry, in other words MICE travel, as a key economic driver for the Sultanate of Oman.
Omran was established by the Government of Oman to deliver major projects and manage its assets and investments in the tourism sector, including the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre that will be operated by AEG Ogden and is set to open in 2016.
PCMA, which has 6,400 members and 50,000 customers, has been engaged to provide training to supply chain in readiness of the opening of the new centre.
The education offerings will be provided through PCMA’s accreditation training programmes and will address sales development, service development and meeting logistics.
Omran CEO Wael Al Lawati said the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre would be a serious player in the highly competitive global business events market.
“We believe a key selling point for Oman and the centre will be the ability to deliver first-class events that showcase the traditional and unique Omani hospitality. PCMA‘s global direction is a perfect match for our vision to provide global accreditation and training platforms. Together we will share Oman’s story with the world,” said Al Lawati. The partnership officially begins on January 1, 2014.
