Thousands of helium-filled balloons were released into the skies above Oman Air’s headquarters in Muscat on the 18th of November, as the Sultanate’s national airline celebrated Oman’s 43rd National Day.
The 4,300 red, white and green balloons – 100 for each year since Oman’s Renaissance – were released in front of an appreciative crowd comprising all of Oman Air’s HQ1- and HQ2-based staff, who were joined by additional crowds of onlookers, following an announcement on Muscat FM radio stations that the innovative event would take place later that afternoon. The audience’s patriotic spirits were further lifted by the playing of Omani nationalistic songs over the public address system.
And as the sight of balloons in the colours of Oman’s national flag filled the airspace over Oman Air’s headquarters, further celebrations were taking place around the airline’s numerous sites. Passengers were also invited to join the celebrations, with airports at Muscat, Salalah and Khasab being adorned with the colours of the national flag and customers on all Oman Air flights being offered sweets and cupcakes decorated with the red white and green tricolour. Customers were also given special hand baggage labels with National Day greetings.
There was a special lunch held by Oman Air Cargo, which had also festooned the business unit’s offices with balloons and drapes in the red white and green of the national flag.
In addition, Flight Operations staff offered colleagues specially-prepared cupcakes, each bearing Oman’s national colours, with addition of beautiful pink icing flowers. Staff from many other departments brought creativity and colour to the festivities and many of Oman Air’s outstations made arrangements to celebrate one of the most important days in the country’s calendar.
Wayne Pearce, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, commented:
“As the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, we are proud to be celebrating this 43rd National Day and I would like to thank all Oman Air staff who have put so much effort into making our celebrations so memorable. We take very seriously our role as one of the most visible international symbols of Omani achievement and it has been a pleasure to share our National Day with customers throughout our network.”
