Oman “Summer of Sports” programme of 2015, a purposeful annual sports programme, implemented by the Ministry of Sports Affairs, for the tenth year in a row, is very much welcomed by the participants from different governorates of the Sultanate, at the level of sport and entertaining Ramadan nights.
The programme provides Ramadan sport activities and services to suit the desire of the participants, in spending their nights in harmony amid Ramadan sport atmosphere. The activities of “Summer of Sports” contribute to the achievement of social goals and make use of leisure time in developing the sport skills and expertise, which is reflected on the individual’s health and interest, in an attempt to make sport as a daily way of life.
The working teams of “Summer of Sports” in the governorates are exerting great efforts to achieve the objectives of the programme, through the activities of each governorate and targeting aged above-five years of the society, males and females, open the way for everyone to participate in various sports and competitions, that achieve the desired programme goals.
Each governorate prepared its own programmes for “Summer of Sports” of tournaments, competitions and open days, in addition to sports caravans that reach remote villages from sports facilities in various parts of the Sultanate.
The Sports Affairs Department in Musandam Governorate continues the events and activities of “Summer of Sports” programme for 2015 and the sports’ open days.
The Department organised during the month of Ramadan an open day at the sports complex in Khasab that included (football, volleyball, table tennis, badminton and fitness). More than 60 people participated in the open day.
The Sports Affairs Department in Al Wusta Governorate got early preparation for the start of the programme. The working team visited all the wilayats of the governorate (Haima- Mahout, Duqm and Al Jazir). All plans of the wilayats were discussed with the walis, who oversaw the distribution of work, the representatives of the local teams and the administrators and coaches of the programme in every wilayat and their proposals and recommendations were taken into consideration.
The Sports Affairs Department in A’Dakhliyah Governorate, in cooperation with Oman Athletics Federation, conducted a marathon race with the participation of 211 athletes from various governorates of the Sultanate, whose final ceremony was presided over by the Wali of Nizwa.
The activities of the second stage of the programme will kick off on July 26 and will continue until Aug 27, 2015. It is expected that the programme will witness more participants, followers and beneficiaries of sports services for the programme.
