Oman witnesses tourism boom with over 6 lakh tourist arrivals till April

OmanWith Oman becoming one of the “go-to destinations” in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Sultanate’s tourism adds a new feather to its cap.



Over 6 lakh tourists visited Oman until the end of April 2015, confirms the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). And with the Khareef season already started in Salalah, large number of visitors are heading to the south.



According to NCSI, between June 6 and July 13 this year 29,025 people visited Salalah, which is a 5.2 per cent increase as compared to 27,586 during the same period last year.



Among the regions, GCC tops the list with 71,923 tourists followed by 24,452 Indians, 14,230 British nationals, and 8,051 Germans arriving in the Sultanate.



Again, among the GCC nationals, Omanis made up 50.9 per cent of visitors, Emiratis made up 8.3 per cent and the rest of the GCC nationals made up 5.2 per cent.



Meanwhile, 3 and 3 star hotels accommodated 414,030 guests until the end of April generating revenues worth OMR73,887,000.
