The first half of this year saw that tourists coming to Turkey spent approximately $1.2 billion on clothing and footwear. As per Turkish Statistical Institute or TurkStat figures, 13,708,152 people from overseas, including 2,260,827 Turkish citizens, poured in Turkey from the month of January till June.
During this time, tourism revenue was roughly $8.8 billion with $6.8 billion from foreign tourists and about $2 billion from Turkish citizens coming from abroad. In terms of personal expenditure, it reached $7.5 billion, while tour package expenditures came to around $1.2 billion.
On the other hand, food and beverage sector lured greatest number of tourists spent more than $1.97 billion followed by international transportation at $1.326 billion along with accommodation at $1.036 billion.
Overseas citizens and Turkish citizens who are settled abroad spent almost $390 million on health tourism in Turkey and just about $618 million on domestic transportation. Sports, education and culture and their tourist spending in Turkey exceeded $95 million.
The initial six months of this year witnessed 13.2 percent of tourist spending ($1,175,753,000) in clothing and footwear. Souvenirs comprise 5.4 percent of their expenditures, at $477,058,000. Whereas other spending rose to $327 million, they paid $46 million for carpets and rugs.
