The carnival festivities which will commence on February 24th will be enjoyed by 1.1 million visitors who will generate around three million reales ( over $9 million) to the economy of the famous metropolis, tourism company Riotur noted.
This year more than 500 parades in different neighborhoods will take place in the city of Rio, according to Riotur.
Although the beginning of the festivities is on the Feb 24th, numerous samba groups – one of the rhythms that are part of the cultural heritage of Brazil -, known as ˜blocos’, have for weeks gone off the streets as part of their rehearsals. This year the participation of 451 ‘blocos’ is expected.
The festivities will conclude on March 4th.
