Operations in Istanbul’s new airport delayed till March 2019

The date of starting operations at the newly-built Istanbul New Airport has been shifted from Dec. 31, 2018, until March 2019.

 

 

The move to shift all operations to the İstanbul New Airport, was postponed following a 2.5 hour meeting between government and Turkish Airlines (THY) officials, as well as representatives from İstanbul Grand AirPort (İGA),the company building and operating Istanbul New Airport.

 

 

However, no official statement has been released.

 

 

The İstanbul New Airport was opened in a splendid inauguration ceremony in October, 2018. The ceremony was attended by government officials and foreign state leaders including the presidents of Albania, Kyrgyzstan, Kosovo, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Macedonia, Moldova, Pakistan, Serbia, and Sudan.

 

 

Istanbul’s present main Ataturk airport has 41 gates, while that of the new aiprot has almost triple – 114 gates.

 

 

 

The new airport will offer 257 remote parking units, in addition to up to 29 remote bus gates. It is believed that it will be one of the largest airport the world.

 

 

 

The world waits for this magnificent structure to start welcoming passengers across the globe.

 

 

 

It is believed that the building site of Istanbul’s massive new airport has been inundated after heavy rains a few hours back.
