The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority and the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will present the annual Liberty Weekend concert at Orlando International Airport (MCO). The event hosted in conjunction with the Hyatt Regency Hotel Orlando International Airport will commemorate the nation’s birthday with a unique musical experience enjoyed by travelers and residents alike.
The theme for this year’s Liberty Weekend will be “American Celebration” and the Authority will once again celebrate the accomplishments of a local veteran. The third annual Colonel Joe Kittinger Award will be presented to a distinguished veteran from Central Florida to honor his or her service and recognize their achievements in the field of aviation and contributions to the community. Past recipients include Col. Joe Kittinger, for whom the award is now named, and Lt. Col. R. Patrick Phillips.
On Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 7:45 p.m. in the unique setting of the Hyatt Hotel Atrium at Orlando International Airport, visitors and travelers can share in a soaring musical salute to Independence Day. The Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra will feature a playlist of patriotic classics and contemporary favorites. The concert is free to the public and those attending will receive three hours of complimentary garage parking.
Liberty Weekend serves as a fitting preamble to the Fourth of July holiday since Orlando International Airport serves as an important gateway to the most visited destination in the United States. Central Florida welcomed a record 62 million visitors in 2014 and Orlando International is on pace in 2015 to break its all-time passenger record of 36.4 million. MCO is the second busiest airport in Florida and 14th busiest in the U.S. The airport has 18,000 employees and generates $31 billion in direct and indirect revenue for the regional economy.
