By the year 2020, the kingdom will meet and exceed its target of attracting two million Chinese vacationers because of growing number of flight connectivities between the two countries and the implementation of the ‘China Ready’ strategy, according to the Minister of Tourism.
“The number of Chinese tourists to the Kingdom will exceed 2 million by 2020,” explains the Tourism Minister Thong Khon, while speaking at the ‘Second National Forum on Chinese Tourism’ organized yesterday.
“Now, we are working on developing human resources in the sector, encouraging more people to become Chinese-speaking tour guides,” Mr Khon said, adding that his ministry has requested the private sector to enhance the tourism product range on offer.“We are focusing on the Chinese market because we share historical ties with this nation,” Mr Khon said. “The number of flights connecting Chinese cities with cities in Cambodia is increasing, and this is making it easier for Chinese people to visit Cambodia.
“We are also considering forecasts that the number of Chinese travellers will increase dramatically in coming years,” Mr Khon said.
Lately, Cambodia published the white paper for its ‘China Ready’ policy for 2016-2020, which targets the goal of attracting almost 2 million Chinese tourists by the year 2020.
The plan demands an increase in the number of Chinese-speaking tour guides, and request hospitality businesses, like the hotels and restaurants, to offer experiences that serve Chinese travelers, like accepting payments in the Chinese currency, the yuan.
