City of Padang, Indonesia is preparing itself to become a halal tourism destination since West Sumatra has become the standard of world halal tourism spot in 2016. The Mayor of Padang Mahyeldi said that the reason for this region to become a halal tourism spot is due to the presence of halal certified restaurants and hotels. The hotel managements have also been instructed to support the halal tourism status.
Padang City government has also worked along with business players and investors from Saudi Arabia and Qatar for developing number of halal tourism destinations. Besides partnerships from the Middle East, the government has also sought support from neighboring countries like Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam. City of Padang Deputy Mayor, Emzalmi said that the government has asked for support from the U.S. and Japan and the response has been positive, since halal tourism has a clear direction.
