a series of paintings by artist Lawrence R. Armstrong will be on display at John Wayne Airport (JWA) as part of JWA’s Community Focus Space Program (CFS). These paintings can be viewed on the Departure (upper) Level near security screening areas in Terminals A, B and C, and on the Arrival (lower) Level adjacent to Baggage Carousels 1 and 4.
“Lawrence Armstrong is not only a talented artist, but an accomplished architect, designer and CEO of an international architecture firm,” said Board Chairwoman Lisa Bartlett. “His work has been shown in galleries and exhibitions around the world, and we are pleased to display this series of paintings for guests at John Wayne Airport to enjoy.”
The artist’s influences come from the modern architecture and art world, and include Corbusier, Meier, Pollack and Warhol. He describes his work, both in art and architecture, as a layered vision, and an ongoing exploration of the concept of layers.
“I have studied and created art all my life,” said Mr. Armstrong. “I draw inspiration from compositions in nature and the built environment.”
A formally trained architect and business leader, Lawrence Armstrong is the CEO of Ware Malcomb, an international architecture firm based in Irvine, California with 22 offices across North America. An accomplished artist, he has received numerous awards for personal art and design, and his work has been shown throughout the United States and Europe.
