On Easter Sunday, six tourists were injured when the motorboat in which they were travelling towards the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP) located in Alaminos City had caught fire a few minutes after leaving the wharf at Barangay Lucap.
The police chief, Benjamin Ariola, said that the fire might have been a direct consequence of a gasoline leak from a container that was placed close to the engine of the boat.
Ariola added that the engine of the boat was probably overheat and this is the reason that the fire was caused.
The identities of the six tourists were not available immediately and they have suffered burns. A passing motorboat was able to rescue the tourists and carried them back to the wharf. There, am ambulance rushed them to a hospital without delay.
Ariola also mentioned that seven other tourists in that boat were absolutely unhurt.
During the Holy Week holiday break, thousands of tourists had flowed into the HINP that is the leading tourist locale of Pangasinan province.
