Panglao Island in Bohol to have long-standing tourism plan soon

Panglao IslandOn Wednesday, Roy A. Cimatu, Environment Secretary of Philippines has requested the officials of the local government to create a long-standing strategy for Panglao, an island municipality in Bohol.

 
At the time of lauding the current initiations of the Bohol provincial government and other Panglao stakeholders, Cimatu underlined the call for planning in terms of long-term development for the island in a way to make sure the sustainability of its environment.

 
Cimatu in a statement explained that like Boracay, Panglao is one of the top tourist destinations in the country, popular for its white-sand beaches and world-class diving spots.

 
Earlier, Cimatu had suggested President Duterte to shut Boracay for the time being to discontinue different tourism activities in the island. The environment chief was directed by President Duterte to head the task force in addressing the issues related to environment, besetting the country’s top tourist destination.

 
Boracay is an island in Malay, Aklan. Cimatu stated that a lasting growth and expansion plan for Panglao should encompass the possible inflow of tourists into the island in the coming 30 years.

 
“The plans you are making are good for now. But I want to see a development plan for Panglao for the next 30 years,” Cimatu informed the members of the Panglao Island and Tagbilaran Executive Council (Pitec) headed by Bohol Gov. Edgar Chatto, at the time of their meeting on Monday.
