Head of the Paphos regional board of tourism, Nasos Hadjigeorgiou said that concerted efforts are in progress to ease seasonality and include the promotion of Paphos abroad.
Hadjigeorgiou said, “We are preparing to participate in one of the largest tourism fairs in Europe, the WTM (World travel market) a London exhibition from 6-8 November. We will get to see the planning of various companies and airlines to get a better idea of next summer season.”
Dozens of hoteliers from Paphos will participate in the event, and meetings will be held with tourist agents and promotional material relating to Paphos as a destination will be distributed to tour operators and visitors.
During November 13-16, the tourism board will participate in workshops and presentations held by the Cyprus Tourism Organisation in four cities in Poland – Krakow, Katowice, Poznan and Warsaw, and more than one hundred and fifty travel agents are expected to participate.
The Paphos regional board of tourism is also planning a series of specialized workshops and presentations in the Baltic area from 12-15 December. Although there are already air connections in place to the Baltic area from Larnaca, direct flights from Paphos will commence next year and will include: Bratislava, Bucharest, Budapest, Dublin, Riga, Sofia and Tallinn.
Last week, the tourism board hosted a Ryanair film crew in Paphos to shoot a promotional video of the area. Hadjigeorgiou said, “We provided accommodation, transfers and guides.”
Hadjigeorgiou further added, “This is all part of our strategic aim to make Paphos fully operational all year round.” There are indications that hotels remaining open during the winter this year will experience increased occupancy, and that more will remain open next year.
