Paris recovers from tourismParis has officially recovered from a long tourism slump after a string of terrorist attacks in 2015, recording the highest overnight hotel stays in the first trimester of 2017.

According to the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau, Paris saw a 13 percent increase in overnight hotel stays in the first four months of 2017 compared to the same period in 2016. This increase marks the highest number of stays in more than 10 years.

Foreign tourists are returning to the City of Light after being scared off by the terror incidents of 2015.

Visits from Russia, for example, increased 51 percent in the first trimester of 2017, while a significant number of visitors were from Japan (62 percent) and China (40 percent).

As part of an aggressive promotional campaign, the city of Paris released a two and a half-minute tourism video last fall that was broadcast in markets like Milan, Shanghai, Tokyo, New York, Berlin and Beijing. The video highlights the merits of the city’s gastronomy, shopping, and cultural landmarks and was part of a €2 million plan to lure tourists back to the embattled city.
