A strong recovery was noted post the lull and drop in visitors followed by the Islamist attack in November 2015 killing 130 people.
The first trimester of 2017 showed hotel visits up by 12.5% as compared to 2016. The Paris Office of Tourism revealed that the Russian and Japanese visitors boosted the tourism numbers.
As mentioned by Mairie( town hall) in a press release that the first trimester of 2017 saw the best four months that Greater Paris had on record for at least 10 years.
As compared to 2016 the overseas visitors were 16% up and the French tourist number was 9.9%. Japanese visitors soared to 62% this year, while Russian was 51% and Chinese 40% for the time frame of 2016.
Around 11.2 more hotel rooms were booked for the business visitors in the first trimester of 2017 as compared to 2016.
The Mairie further mentioned that the figures were very encouraging and the €8m injection to boost visits gave results.
Over 7 percent of France’s national income is generated by tourism and in the Ille de France region about half a million people have jobs related to tourism.
