Parisian Metro to go paperless and embrace e-tickets

Paris Metro to scrap famous paper ticketPaper tickets soon to become history in the Parisian Metro. The ticket will be out of use by 2021 as the government feels that it is a waste of time and energy.



The tickets will be replaced by Navigo passes which will allow commuters to use mobile phones to scan through the ticket barriers.



There were plans of replacing paper tickets with Navigo payment since 2001 as the two systems were used side by side till now. But now only Navigo will be kept in use.



The current system is costly and each year five millions of tickets get demagnetise in wallets and handbags. There are plans of launching a   new high-tech data platform that will cover the entire network and help operators and customers to tack buses and subway trains in a real time and predictive way/ Paris is also planning to make 150 Metro stations have free Wi-Fi services, the overall cost for these expenses will come to €400 million over the next six years. It is not known if the price if here are plans of increasing the metro fare.
