Right after kicking the female staff wearing a head scarf or a hijab, the 57-year-old man Robin A. Rhodes was heard to narrate ‘Trump is here now; he will get rid of all of you’.
The Queens district attorney, Richard A. Brown informed that the man arrived from Aruba on 25th January, Wednesday and he was waiting for his connecting flight to Massachusetts. Somewhere in-between 7:10 pm and 9:45 pm, Rhodes approached hijab clad Rabeeya Khan at the Delta Air Lines Sky Club lounge, situated in the Terminal 2 of the airport.
The statement issued by Richard A. Brown said that the man went to Ms. Khan’s office and asked “Are you praying? What are you doing?” before punching the door. The statement also said that he threatened the female staff and kicked the right leg of Ms. Khan and when she retreated to a corner of the office, he stepped inside the office and blocked her way out. Even when Ms. Khan ran to the front desk after another person came on her rescue, the man followed her and shouted mean things relating to Islam and ISIS.
After being arrested by the police, Rhodes said that he couldn’t tell if it was a man or woman because their back was to him and they had something covering their head.
Rhodes was charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault, menacing and harassment as hate crimes, after the incident. If the judge finds him to be guilty, Rhodes might face jail term of up to four years.
