Southwest Airlines Flight 987 from Austin to Harlingen had to make an emergency landing in San Antonio after a part of the wing appeared out of place. A passenger on board, Lorenzo Hernandez Jr described his experience while in a facebook post and needless to mention, the situation was quite dreadful.
Describing his experience as ‘a near death experience’, he added how a few people on board screamed that a part of the flight flew off and a panel of the wing was hanging.
There were 109 passengers on board the Southwest Airlines flight along with five crew members. The plane made a safe landing at around 5 p.m. on Sunday and there were no injuries reported.
According to the airline officials, the plane was removed from service for further investigation. Early speculations reveal that the aircraft suffered from a problem which is called a ‘flap track canoe fairing’. Another aircraft was deployed to fly the passengers on to Harlingen about two hours late.
