Passengers at a Bhopal bound Jet Airways flight had to wait for two hours at the airport in Mumbai as unruly passengers forced airline to delay the flight so that 17 other passengers from their group could board the jet on Friday, 2nd December.
It was found that 17 people of a group of 80 people, who were heading towards Bhopal to attend a wedding, came late to the airport and just when they could not get inside the overbooked flight, the other passengers from their group held the flight packed with the other passengers as ransom.
The Jet Airways flight 9W-7083 was scheduled to depart from Mumbai airport at 5:55 am local time, where all the 156 economy class seats filled up on a first-come-first-serve basis. When the 17 passengers from the wedding group arrived, they were informed that the jet was overbooked.
After a delay of almost three hours, five of the other passengers voluntarily got down from the jet. The flight finally took off around 8 am local time from the Mumbai airport and landed at its destination around 9:10 am local time.
