eastmidlandstrainsEast Midlands Trains passengers will welcome today  the completion of the first phase of a £100k investment programme to deliver improvements to Market Harborough station, in partnership with Network Rail.

The first tranche of works, part of the National Stations Improvement Programme, saw the refurbishment of toilets and waiting rooms on both platforms at the station, with the second phase seeing new ticket windows installed.

The project will provide a much improved station environment, while being sympathetic to the traditional design. The complete refurbishment of the ticket office will create new dual height ticket office windows and hearing loops, making it more accessible for all passengers.

Passengers using Market Harborough can now also access free, fast internet at the station thanks to an investment programme delivered in partnership with WiFi provider The Cloud. WiFi is already available free of charge to first class passengers on all trains to London, and with a small fee for standard class users.

Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service & Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: said: “This investment underpins our commitment to delivering station enhancements for our passengers.

“The refurbished ticket office will make a real difference to passengers who use the station every day, while respecting the station listed status. We will also take the station into the 21st century by providing WiFi free of charge.”

The improvement work will be carried out with minimal disruption to passengers and extra steps will be taken to keep the station open at all times, including ticket sales.

The improvement work is scheduled to be completed by January 2014.  There will be no disruption to train services as work is carried out.
