Passengers Warned of Lift Repair Work at Stockport Station

Published on : Tuesday, January 7, 2020

Network RailPeople needing step-free access at Stockport station are being urged to plan their journeys this week while specialist electrical repairs are made to a broken-down lift.

The work to the lift which serves platforms one and two started today and is expected to take eight days.

A crucial part of the lift’s circuit board is being replaced and will also need to be installed to the other lift in the station from January 13.

Rob Ellams, senior asset manager for stations at Network Rail, said: “We are very sorry to passengers who have been impacted by the broken-down lift at Stockport station. Unfortunately, it has been a complex repair and needed a part that had to be specially made.

“The good news for passengers is that part is now being fitted, so the lift can be back in use in just over a week’s time. We are also replacing the circuit board in the other lift at the station to prevent a similar breakdown occurring.”

A spokesperson for Avanti West Coast, which manages the station, said: “We are sorry to customers affected at Stockport and are working closely with Network Rail, which is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the lift, to minimise the impact at the station.

“Additional staff are available at Stockport to assist customers until the lift is back in operation.”

Passengers travelling to/from Stockport are advised to speak to a member of the Avanti West Coast Team at Stockport station.

The staff will make arrangements for those affected to travel by taxi for free to the nearest accessible station.

The repairs to the lift to platforms one and two started on the 6 January, and the maintenance to the lift to platforms three and four will take place on 13 January.

The repair and testing of the lifts will take up to eight days to complete.
