Patients Traveling to New York City for Cosmetic Surgery

Published on : Sunday, November 17, 2013

Director of the New York Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery, Andrew Jacono, M.D., F.A.C.S., says medical tourism is nothing new; however, the days of traveling the globe in search of cheaper cosmetic procedures are behind us. Instead, there has been a recent increase in patients from around the world traveling to New York City for cosmetic surgery, fueled by the global popularity and apparently flawless features of our homegrown celebrities, as well as the superior quality of care.

Dr. Jacono said, “As other cultures are catching up to the U.S. in their acceptance of plastic surgery, there has been a dramatic increase in patients traveling from overseas for higher quality cosmetic procedures, In the past month alone, I’ve seen patients from Romania, Turkey, Singapore, France, Italy and Russia in my practice. “Rhinoplasty, facelifts, and eyelid lifts are among the most popular requests from this international crowd, with the overall trend leaning toward achieving a more youthful appearance while preserving natural ethnic characteristics.”

A recent study by the ASPS, discusses the trend of Americans traveling to developing nations for less costly procedures, Dr. Jacono warns of the medical and legal repercussions that may be associated with these surgeries performed on a budget. Instead, he advises those considering cosmetic surgery to focus on quality treatments that will guarantee safe results. Dr. Jacono and his staff work to ensure that each visiting patient leaves not only with a new and improved look, but also with memories of a one-of-a-kind New York experience.

In spite of the higher cost of cosmetic procedures here compared to nations such as Thailand, Singapore, Mexico and India, all of which have experienced marked increases in medical tourism in recent years, the U.S. still remains a plastic surgery Mecca for those who look for the highest quality results. Along with best-in-class treatment, luxury accommodations serve as another important point in enticing cosmetic surgery tourists to the U.S., and to New York City in particular. Vacation packages may include accommodations at top hotels, dining at world-renowned restaurants and limousine transportation, with additional local getaways and entertainment options.

Dr. Andrew Jacono, is a Dual Board Certified, Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and a rhinoplasty expert with offices in Manhattan and Great Neck, NY. He is recognized as a Top Doctor by the US News & World Report. Dr. Jacono is also Section Head of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at North Shore University Hospital Manhasset, Assistant Clinical Professor, Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary and Director of The New York Center for Facial Plastic & Laser Surgery in New York.

It’s interesting to see this growing trend and how medical procedures like these can actually lead to more tourism, therefore, a boost to the economy.
