Eastleigh’s Pavilion on the Park has been awarded a special grant from the Southampton Airport Big Idea Community Fund to build a new outdoor activity building, opening on to Fleming Park. The new 4all Hanger will provide storage for specialist cycles and a focal point for developing work skills, independent living skills and recreation & leisure experiences.
The new ‘hangar’ aims to improve engagement with the park, placing an emphasis on inclusivity and opportunity for everyone. The new facilities will encourage adventurous, challenging and inspiring activities, engage families in sustainable living and provide facilities to help those with challenging lives integrate with the community.
Jim Vaughan, Chairman of the Eastleigh Youth Trust and The Pavilion on the Park said: “Without this grant we would not have been able to proceed with our permanent store for 22 specialist cycles used in our Cycles 4 All’ project, or for the equipment needed for our new ‘Challenge 4 All’ and ‘Climate 4 All’ initiatives. The grant will allow us to build a store that opens onto Fleming Park, making it safer and much more convenient for our volunteers to prepare equipment for use, and for participants to experience and enjoy the new urban park area. ‘Smiles on faces’ are what we are looking forward to – of enjoyment and achievement!”
Building work is set to begin in February 2014 with an aim for completion before next summer. In addition to the financial support from Southampton Airport Community Fund, Southampton Airport staff and volunteers hope to get involved with the facilities during the building and launch phase.
Jan Halliday, Southampton Airport’s Director of Marketing and Communications said: “We are delighted to award The Pavilion on the Park with our Big Idea community fund for 2013. The project aimed to find an inspiring project that will make a big impact on the local community and the 4all Hanger undoubtedly will.”
