The Peel Regional Investment Blueprint earmarks tourism excellence as one of five focus areas, alongside industry, agriculture, a capable workforce and strong communities.
The document, prepared by the Peel Development Commission, looks at how the region can flourish to 2050, when its population is projected to be 444,000.
The tourism excellence objective is defined as “a network of natural adventures that attracts visitors and enables them to engage with the Peel’s natural and built attractions in a sustainable manner”.
By 2050, the blueprint aims to help the region triple its tourism economy, double the domestic visitor length of stay, and host 12 significant events per year.
Potential investment opportunities that will contribute to this include:
• adventure event development;
• alternative accommodation including eco-accommodation, camping facilities and backpacker facilities;
• hard and soft adventure experiences;
• industrial and mining tours;
• Peel Hospitality, Tourism and Events Training Centre;
• mountain bike, walking and horse trails; and
• theme and water parks.
Each of WA’s nine Regional Development Commissions are developing a Regional Investment Blueprint based on their development aspirations and forecasted population growth.
Implementation of the nine blueprints will be supported by a $362 million investment through the Government’s Royalties for Regions program.
