A PenAir flight 2921 had to make an emergency landing on Friday at the Crater Lake Klamath Regional Airport. However, it has been reported that all the passengers aboard this flight are currently safe.
Officials said that they are making efforts to detect the reason as to why the smoke indicator light had turned on from the area of the cargo hold inside the aircraft.
The captain of the aircraft had observed this about five minutes before the flight had to make the landing.
Immediately, a fire compression bottle was discharged by the captain.
A fire compressor is an invisible gas that is utilized to pull oxygen from the cargo hold and extinguish any fire that might exist. Thereafter, the plane made an emergency landing and all the passengers were safely evacuated.
Witnesses like Gregory Battis said that they have observed the plane landing on the runway.
Battis added that that he had caught sight of the passengers of the plane, and that the passengers said that they were able to see the flames.
Following the investigation, the officials said that the cargo hold did not have any fire or smoke. This man had planned to board a PenAir flight on Friday morning. But then, his flight had been delayed on account of the weather conditions.
On Friday morning, his flight was cancelled.
And, the plane had to be towed off the runway. PenAir then called up Battis on Friday night and offered a refund for his trip. According to PenAir, the flights on Saturday would not be impacted due to the malfunctioning of the plane.
