Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah will join forces with the iconic luxury train, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice to hold a celebratory event marking 125 years since the birth of Agatha Christie, the legendary author of ‘Murder on the Orient-Express.’
On 1 July 2015, the three head chefs from the hotels and train will create a celebratory gala buffet at Belmond Hotel Cipriani. The main event will take place around the hotel’s swimming pool, the largest in Venice, at 7:30pm. With their pasts steeped in literary history, the properties and the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express are perfectly positioned to mark 125 years of Agatha Christie.
Arif Kemal Dogan, Head Chef at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah will join Chef Christian Bodiguel, Head Chef of the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express and David Bisetto, Head Chef at Belmond Hotel Cipriani to bring the flavours of Paris, Venice and Istanbul together for a culinary journey inspired by Christie’s work. The pool will be decorated with precious vintage details and ornaments reminiscent of the Grand Tour and the 1930s.
The iconic luxury train, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, links the acclaimed cities of Venice with Istanbul and this natural partnership recreates the spirit of the journey that Christie’s famous characters, including detective Hercule Poirot, experienced as they travelled from Paris to Istanbul by train.
‘Murder on the Orient Express,’ the famous detective novel was written by Agatha Christie in 1934 and was inspired during a trip to historical Istanbul. Agatha fulfilled a lifelong dream when she took the train from Turkey to Iraq and it was during this journey she wrote the book. Legend has it, the novel was penned in room 411 at Pera Palace Hotel Jumeirah which was originally built in 1892, to host Orient Express passengers. Adding to the property’s mystique, this room was re-named after the author.
