After rising four places in the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) rankings, Peru leads growth streak of international meetings in the region, said Peru’s Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva.
“ICCA released its annual rankings, in which Lima and Peru have improved several places; this reflects the good strategy that is promoting Peru as favorite tourist destination where international meetings can take place in the region,” Silva informed.
“Peru is placed 39th in the ICCA rankings, rising four places after hosting 84 events. Lima, in turn, went from 42nd to 35th place since it hosted 54 events in 2013 and 64 in 2014,” she pointed out.
Arequipa remains in the rankings for second year in a raw, and Cusco joined the list for the first time. This is very important news because it encourages us to keep on working in this sense,” she stated.
Silva emphasized the sector will maintain a regular presence in specialized fairs to promote Peru as a tourist destination among event planners, who will be offered inspection trips.
Brazil is still the first destination (10th in the world ranking) that hosts most of the international events in Latin America, followed by Argentina, which occupies the 18th position in the ICCA world list.
In the city ranking by number of meetings organised in 2014, Paris retains the top rank worldwide, with Vienna swapping places with Madrid and moving up from three to two, and Berlin and Barcelona swapping places at four and five respectively.
ICCA’s international association meetings tables are published every year. To be included, meetings must be held on a regular basis, have at least 50 delegates, and rotate between at least three countries.
