In 2015’s first quarter, tourist arrivals grew by 8.3% compared to the same period last year caused by promotional campaigns in the main cities and the border, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism Magali Silva announced.
This represents an increase of 867,503 visitors, she pointed out. The amount of foreign tourists visiting Chile grew by 14.4% (36,924 visitors), which accounts for 33% of the total international arrivals in Peru.
“By launching promotional campaigns in the main cities and the border, the integral strategy aimed at this market, has allowed the rate of visits to grow and reverse the negative tendency registered last year,” she stated.
In the first quarter of the year, countries which stood out, above all, were: Mexico (17%), Colombia (14.2%), Ecuador (9.4%), Argentina (9.6%) and Brazil (6%). These markets represent 22% of the total international arrivals in our country.
“Inbound tourism is still growing and is the result of this intense promotion launched by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism through Promperu and Peru’s Commercial Offices abroad (OCEX), including actions addressed to the final consumer and an articulated work carried out with the commercial chain.”
“We are present in the most important international fairs and exhibitions, where we expect to reach deals totaling US$60 million,” she said.
By the end of January, the Ministry launched the campaign called “Perú, País de Tesoros escondidos” (Peru, Hidden treasures country) in Spain. Besides, OCEX Madrid promotes tourism through gastronomy.
Concerning the Asian continent, South Korean and Japanese tourist visits to Peru have increased since last year. In order to continue boosting the Peru’s receptive tourism growth, national tour operators will participate at the 2015 South Korea Expo to be held on July 14-15.
In China, the Peruvian presence is being strengthened, which had enabled many Chinese tour operators to visit Peru in the framework of the 2015 Peru Travel Mart.
Travel Mart is a gathering for tourism businessmen and women, who want to engage and concretize deals with Peruvian hotels, tour operators, cruise lines, and transportation companies.
With a record negotiation cypher close to S/.120 million (about US$38 million), the 22nd Peru Travel Mart (PTM 2015) concluded on Sunday, the President of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) Jorge Jochamowitz revealed.
