Philippines TourismThe hotel industry of Philippines continues to prosper despite the presence of tourism challenges in various parts of the country posing perils to many properties outside Luzon.

Elizabeth Georgia, general manager, Summit Hotels and Resorts representing the hospitality unit of the Gokongwei-led Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC) said that there exist many players in this sector and it is a great sign that plenty of new hotels are gradually being opened in this part of the world.

She told the local media that the government of Philippines is optimistic about the tourism industry especially since a large number of domestic tourism traffic has been registered.

A number of Filipinos are observed to be making trips to different destinations of this nation.

Summit Galleria is located strategically at the North Reclamation Area in Cebu City. The hotel is the fourth property of the hotel developer under the Summit Hotels and Resorts brand. The others are Summit Rudge in Tagaytay and Summit Hotel Magnolia in Quezon City.

She said that the hotel mainly caters to the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) and also welcome leisure tourists and people who visit for the purpose of ‘staycation’.

The tourism sector of the nation confronted with great challenges this year when the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) made attempts to infiltrate Bohol.

Also the arson-shooting incident affected the regional tourism sector adversely.

However, despite the various pitfalls, the number of international tourists arriving in the Philippines has been steadily increasing particularly in Cebu. She feels that Cebu is actually quite popular among Korean, Chinese and Japanese tourists.

RLC has also signed a deal with Dusit International that is a Thailand-based hospitality group to open a 271-room beachfront luxury hotel resort on Mactan Island in Cebu within the year 2019.
