The department of tourism in the Philippines needs to work for transforming the country into a sports eco-tourism hub. The hospitality and fluency of the Filipinos in the English language provide a perfect environment for sports eco-tourism just like the Caramoan Islands and the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex. These spots offer wakeboarding events, triathlons, marathons, dragon boat races, trail runs, mountain bike, cycling races, skateboarding and kite boarding competitions.
These sporting activities have given rise to promising market for local food and produce and small-scale enterprises among others. Records indicate that tourism provides for about 8.2% of the total GDP of the Philippines’ as of 2015. The UNWTO has estimated sports tourism as a $600 billion market.
