The first six months of this year witnessed 12.7 percent rise in the number of visiting foreigners in Philippines to 3.3 million in comparison to the same time in 2016, as confirmed by the Tourism department on this Friday.
“For the period of January to June 2017 foreign tourist arrivals rose … to 3.3 million from three million the same period in 2016,” Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo expressed in a statement.
South Korea occupied the top spot in terms of tourism market with 795,085 arrivals or a 23.68 percent. Followed by the United States, figures show approximately 513,443 (15.29 percent); China, 454,962 (13.55 percent); and Japan, 294,080 (8.76 percent) respectively.
Teo mentioned that a sudden rise in arrivals in January with 631,639 visitors had created the impetus for a stable growth.
“In the face of challenges, the country continued to receive the growing influx of tourists from across the globe, desiring to see our world-class destinations and experience the renowned Filipino hospitality,” she said.
