Approximately 4.7 million travelers will use the Port Authority’s bridges, airports, tunnels and PATH system during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and the agency is putting measures in place to accommodate the anticipated heavy travel volume.
The Port Authority will provide extra services – including customer service representatives at the airports and a full complement of toll collectors at its tunnels and bridges – to make travel as smooth as possible.
For those traveling by air during the Thanksgiving holiday, more than 1.3 million passengers will travel through John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International, LaGuardia and Stewart International airports. Due to the high volume of traffic, the agency is encouraging travelers to allow extra time to get to the airport and to check with their carrier to ensure their flight will depart on schedule.
About 613,000 passengers will use Kennedy Airport, 395,000 will use Newark Airport and nearly 291,000 are expected at LaGuardia Airport during the holiday period. Approximately 4,200 passengers are expected to use Stewart Airport.
In addition to a full complement of customer service representatives, the Port Authority will assist air travelers at its airport Welcome Centers, which provide information about ground transportation, hotels and other useful information.
