Best Western Hotels and Resorts announced that its board of directors has elected Terry Porter as board chairman for 2016. Porter was elected to the Board in November 2013 to represent the interests of Best Western hoteliers in the brand’s District I, which includes Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. Porter previously served as vice chairman. Director Terry Bichsel will serve as vice chairman and Director James Cosgrove will serve as secretary-treasurer.
Before being elected to the board of Directors, Porter was a brand governor representing hoteliers in central and southern Utah, including the area surrounding Bryce Canyon National Park. Porter has owned and operated the Best Western PLUS Town & Country Inn in Cedar City, Utah, since 1989.
“Mr. Porter brings tremendous passion, integrity, and dedication to the role of board chairman,” said Best Western President and CEO David Kong. “He has more than three decades of experience with our brand, and I have no doubt he will guide us through what will be an extraordinary year ahead. With our monumental brand refresh, continued roll-out of our new global digital platform, and exciting new offerings for today’s travelers, 2016 promises to be a year to remember for Best Western.”
“This is an incredible time to serve as board chairman, and I am humbled to have the opportunity,” said Terry Porter, chairman of the board for Best Western Hotels and Resorts. “As we celebrate our 70th birthday this year, the Board will remain focused on enhancing our brand, delivering exceptional service to our guests, and driving more revenue to our hoteliers.”
Porter takes a personal interest in his business and his community. He served on the boards of the Utah Travel Council, Cedar City Motel Association, Utah Shakespearean Festival and various Cedar City committees. He is also a participating member of the American Hotel & Lodging Association, Asian American Hotel Owners Association, Utah Hotel and Lodging Association, and Iron County Lodging Association.
